Wildwoods Renovated Boardwalk: Ready to Kick-Off Summer Vacation at the Jersey Shore
The Wildwoods welcomes you to immerse in the best of classic Americana and fun in the sun this summer on the classic Jersey shore boardwalk. The famous Wildwood boardwalk stretches for 38 blocks and is a destination for vacation-goers far and wide. This year, there’s more to celebrate, as a project that has gone on for months this winter, which renovated a three-block stretch of the boardwalk from Maple to Oak avenues, is now complete.
This is just the beginning of a multimillion dollar project to install new pine boards along 20 blocks of the boardwalk. This stretch is now ready to be graced sandy feet. The boards replaced were over 100 years old, well traveled, and in deep need of repair. Previously, shops and attractions along this stretch were inconvenient to access, as one had to walk around the construction; thankfully, this is no longer the case, and just in time for Wildwood’s kickoff of the summer season this upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Ready to Kick-off Summer?
The boardwalk is ready for summertime action, and there will be no interruption when it comes to riding the famous tram cars that carry people up and down the boardwalk, and easy access to the white-sand beaches which take one down to the shoreline.
There are plans to continue the refurbishing project in the off-season, so as to not disturb summertime beachgoers, with the whole project projected to take five years to complete. Overall, the project is ensuring that the historical Wildwood boardwalk will continue to be enjoyed and create treasured memories for years to come.
Join In On Wildwood’s Action-Packed Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day weekend is always a celebratory occasion, which also creates space for important remembrance ceremonies. It is also Wildwood’s official kickoff to the summer season. Events will be held Friday, May 27th through Monday, May 30th.
Take Part In Unlocking the Ocean
This ceremony takes place at 11 am on Friday, May 27th, on the beach at Andrew’s Avenue, located right next to the Wildwood Convention Center. The ceremony, which is led by Wildwood officials, school children and guest speakers, officially opens the ocean for the season. Come witness the one and only Wildwood “W” key, which unlocks the salty sea!
Wildwood’s International Kite Festival
The Wildwood sky will be bursting with color in North America’s largest kite festival! The kites take flight at 11 am on Friday, May 27th, on the beach at Andrew’s Avenue, located right next to the Wildwood Convention Center; this event kicks-off in tandem with the Unlocking the Ocean Ceremony. There will be a Kite Sales Tent, a Friday night kite social, and kites will even light up the night at 9 pm Friday at the Rio Grande Avenue Beach. The Kite Festival graces the Wildwood skies all weekend. Festivities continue, beginning at 9am on both Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about flying kites, with free exhibits and workshops right on the beach. The kite festivities conclude with an amazing indoor show, on Monday, May 30th, with the World Indoor Kite Competition at the Wildwood Convention Center. The Downtown Wildwood’s Farmer’s Market is Open!
The Downtown Wildwood’s Farmer’s Market makes the Garden State proud. Enjoy Jersey fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted goods, and more! Starting Memorial Day weekend, May 28th, the Downtown Wildwood Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8:00-12:30pm. The market stretches from Byrne Plaza, at 3400 Pacific Avenue, for Oak Avenue to Schellenger Avenue. With more than 60 vendors, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Memorial Day Weekend Craft Show
This special event takes place on the famous Wildwood Boardwalk on Saturday, May 28th from 9:00am-5:00pm and again on Sunday, May 29th from 9:00am-4:00pm. Wildwood’s Free Concert Kickoff!
Bring along good company and beach chairs to enjoy the first free outdoor concert of the season. The concert takes place on Sunday, May 29 in Centennial Park, Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. Chatterband will be playing dance and party songs that will have you moving and grooving- perfect for all ages!
Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony
Commemorate what Memorial Day is truly about by taking part in Wildwood’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the Wildwood American Legion Post #184 at 4200 Atlantic Avenue.
